Overview
Belize is a country situated on the north-eastern coast of Central America, making it part of the broader North American continent. It is bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Guatemala to the west and south. The country also shares a maritime boundary with Honduras to the southeast.
Despite its geographic location in Central America, Belize maintains strong cultural and political ties to the Caribbean region. It is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and is part of the Commonwealth Caribbean, a grouping that reflects its historical connection to the British West Indies.
Geography and Location
Belize occupies a distinctive position along the Caribbean coastline of Central America, giving it both mainland territory and access to the sea. Its borders connect it to two major Central American neighbors:
- Mexico, to the north
- Guatemala, to the west and south
- The Caribbean Sea, to the east

Regional Identity
One of the notable aspects of Belize's identity is its dual regional character.
