Sarteneja is a village located in Belize. It serves as the country's largest fishing community and holds the distinction of being the second largest village in the nation. According to 2016 estimates, the settlement had a population of approximately 3,500 residents.
The name Sarteneja is derived from a Castilian distortion of the original Mayan name Tza-ten-a-ha. This indigenous name translates to "water between the rocks."
