San Jose Palmar, officially known as San Jose "Nuevo" Palmar, is a village located in the Orange Walk District of Belize. It is situated approximately two miles southeast of downtown Orange Walk Town, roughly a five-minute drive from the town center.
The settlement was established on October 12, 1936, when approximately 200 inhabitants of Yucatec Maya ethnicity relocated from San Jose in the Yalbac Hills to their new location. Originally settled by residents from San Jose Viejo, the village has grown to a population of approximately 2,500 people.
The village maintains a history dating back to the colonial era. Its first chairperson, or "alcalde," was Maximo Perez, while the current chairperson is Orlando Balam, a native of the village.
