Jerusalem

Israel

Jerusalem is a city located in the Southern Levant on a plateau within the Judaean Mountains, situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. It is recognized as one of the oldest cities in the world and holds significant religious importance as a holy city for the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The city's political status remains a subject of international dispute. Israel has claimed the entirety of Jerusalem as its capital since 1980 and maintains its primary governmental institutions there. Conversely, Palestine declares East Jerusalem as its capital city. The international community generally rejects the annexation of East Jerusalem, considering it illegal and viewing the area as Palestinian territory occupied by Israel.
