Walk Into a Carved-Pumpkin Forest at Canada Olympic Park
You step off the shuttle at 88 Canada Olympic Rd. S.W. and the path ahead glows orange — more than 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins line a self-paced walking route, lit from within and arranged into Halloween characters, pop culture icons and dinosaurs. Pumpkin-carving demonstrations run alongside, and someone is always handing out hot chocolate against the October chill. Pumpkins After Dark runs Sept 25–Oct 31, 2026. On the same site, WinSport's 18-hole outdoor course becomes Haunted Mini Golf on select dates from Sept 26–Oct 31, 2026 — costumes encouraged, so wear yours.
Get Scared on Purpose: Haunted Houses, Mazes and a Train
Calgary's haunted attractions are built for a full evening, not a quick stop. Pick your poison:
- ScreamFest at GMC Stadium, Stampede Park (2200 Stampede Trail S.E.) — seven haunted houses, carnival games, axe throwing with "Killer Cash" currency and food trucks. Runs Oct 9, 10, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31, 2026, with an adult night on Oct 22.
- Field of Screams at Cobb's Adventure Park (1500 84 St. N.W.) — 20 acres with six themed haunted houses, archery tag, mini-golf, rides and games. Oct 9, 10, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 25, 2026; adult night Oct 22.
- Train of Terror at Aspen Crossing — 18+, a two-hour experience combining three haunted mazes with a 1.5-hour train ride, food and drinks for purchase. Oct 1, 2026, then every Friday and Saturday through Oct 31. Note this one is outside the city at Mossleigh, AB.
Take a Ghost Tour, Then Keep the Night Going
Calgary Ghost Tours run walking routes through Inglewood, Kensington or downtown on Fridays, Saturdays and some Sunday evenings until Nov 1, 2026 — an easy way to learn the city's darker stories on foot. Afterwards, two seasonal pop-ups keep the theme going: The Nightmare Bar Calgary is an 18+ cocktail, music and games event at Limerick's Traditional Public House (7304 Macleod Trl. S.W.) with a 90-minute experience per ticket, running various dates until Oct 31, 2026. The Crypt & The Crow takes over Tops Pizza South (9919 Fairmont Dr. S.E.) Oct 1–31, 2026 with a gothic crypt theme, themed cocktails and a food menu. For a three-night bar crawl, The Fright Crawl runs Oct 29–31, 2026 for 18+ crowds, with venues that may include Greta Bar, Commonwealth Bar & Stage, Velvet Room and Bottlescrew Bill's Pub; a wristband covers entry.
Screenings, Concerts and Candlelight
Theatre and film carry the season as much as haunted houses do. Alberta Theatre Projects opens its season with Evil Dead The Musical, a Canadian adaptation of the cult classic, at the Martha Cohen Theatre in the Werklund Centre (215 8 Ave. S.E.) from Oct 13–Nov 14, 2026. The Rocky Horror Picture Show screens multiple times at the Plaza Theatre (1133 Kensington Rd. N.W.) Oct 22–31, 2026, with audience participation encouraged and prop bags sold. If you can stay awake, the Calgary Underground Film Festival's 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon runs 7 p.m.–7 a.m. on Oct 24, 2026 at the Globe Cinema (617 8 Ave. S.W.). For something quieter, the Listeso String Quartet performs Halloween-themed classical music by candlelight at Lantern Community Church (1401 10 Ave. S.E.) on Oct 30, 2026.
Family Days, Ghost Dinners and the Zoo
Heritage Park (1900 Heritage Dr. S.W.) hosts Ghouls' Night Out Oct 23–25, 2026, with Halloween characters, interactive games, crafts, a maze, a market and spooky storytelling. The same site runs Ghosts and Gourmet Oct 28–31, 2026 — a three-course dinner at the Wainwright Hotel with ghost stories, followed by an outdoor guided ghost tour drawn from staff experiences. The Dash of Doom on Oct 24, 2026 at North Glenmore Park (Crowchild Trail S.W.) is family- and pet-friendly, with a 1 km kids race, 5 km walk/run and 10 km run supporting the Alberta Animal Rescue Society. At The Confluence (750 9 Ave. S.E.), Oct 30 brings "Boos and Brew," an 18+ evening of crime and ghost stories, while Oct 31 is the Frightful Family Fest with crafts, games and trick-or-treating. ZooBoo at the Calgary Zoo (210 St. George's Dr. N.E.) closes out the season Oct 31–Nov 1, 2026, with trick-or-treat stations where children receive treats and a member scavenger hunt for hidden pumpkins.
Fill the Gaps Between Events
Between the ticketed nights, Lougheed House (707 13 Ave. S.W.) hosts a free outdoor pop-up exhibit, "Tricks, Treats, & Traditions: A History of Halloween in Southern Alberta," running Sept 25–Nov 5, 2026, with photographs and newspaper articles tracing how the holiday took root locally. Most events cluster in the central and southwest parts of the city, with Heritage Park, Stampede Park, WinSport, the Calgary Zoo, The Confluence and Lougheed House as recurring venues — so you can build a day around one neighbourhood rather than crisscrossing the city. Plan around late September through the first days of November, and book the haunted attractions and dinners early: several run only on select October dates, and the adult nights fall on single evenings. Start with one anchor event, layer a ghost tour or a screening beside it, and let the rest of the city's Halloween season fill in around you.
