Getting around Nancun
Nancun sits in Panyu District, Guangzhou, and its transport hub is Nancun Wanbo Station, an interchange where two metro lines meet. For a visitor, the practical picture is simple: the metro does the heavy lifting for longer journeys, local buses fill in the last stretch, and taxis or ride-hailing cover the gaps when you are carrying bags or travelling late.
Metro: the backbone of the network
Nancun Wanbo Station is served by Guangzhou Metro Line 7 and Line 18, and it is operated jointly by Guangzhou Metro Group and Guangdong Intercity Railway Operation. That combination matters to a visitor because Line 18 is a fast, longer-distance line, while Line 7 is the local workhorse through the district.
- Line 7 connects toward Meidi Avenue in one direction and Yanshan in the other, with Hanxi Changlong and Yuangang as the adjacent stations.
- Line 18 runs toward Wanqingsha in one direction and toward Guangzhou East Railway Station in the other, with Panyu Square and Shaxi as the neighbouring stops. Some Line 18 services are express trains, so check the train before boarding if you are counting stops.
The station is large and spread out, with separate underground sections for each line. Line 7 uses an island platform with a blue-green colour scheme, while Line 18 occupies a deeper, multi-level structure finished in grey-white with blue accents. If you are changing between the two lines, allow a little extra time for the walk.
Tickets and passes
Buying a ticket is straightforward. Self-service ticket and top-up machines sit near Exit A, and the ticket booths on the Line 7 side have been upgraded to smart customer service centres. If you plan to ride frequently, a stored-value transit card or a top-up on your ticket is the easiest way to avoid queuing each time.
One timing rule is worth remembering: passengers are advised to enter the station and buy tickets at least five minutes before the last train. The station itself is open from early morning until late evening, and the last departures on each line differ, so check the posted times for your direction rather than assuming a single closing time.
Station facilities worth knowing
The station is well equipped for a long day out, and knowing where things are saves time.
- Toilets are available on both the Line 7 and Line 18 platforms.
- An accessible elevator links the concourse and platform, serving Exits B and G, and there is a wheelchair ramp at Exit G.
- Wide automatic gates are located near Exits C and D.
- A mother-and-baby room is on the Line 18 platform.
- AEDs are placed near the Exit D concourse and the Line 7 station control room.
- A convenience store is near Exit A, and vending machines are on the Line 7 concourse, with water and flowers available on the Line 18 concourse.
Buses and feeder services
Buses are the practical complement to the metro, and the stops cluster tightly around the station exits, which makes transfers easy once you know which exit to use.
- Exit B serves the Nancun Wanbo Station Metro Stop in both directions, used by Panyu routes 58, 70 (westbound only), 163A and 163B.
- Exits C and G put you at the Wanbo Center Stop (westbound), served by a wide spread of Panyu routes including the 30 Tourist Special, 75, 86, 145, 146, 186 and 190, city routes 129, 302, 303, 303A, 310 and 987, plus Night 88 and Night 102.
- Exit D reaches the Nanda Lukou Stop (northbound), with Panyu 30 Tourist Special, 75, 86, 145, 146 and 186, city 129, 310 and 987, and Night 102.
- Exit E1 serves the Wanbo Center Stop (northbound), including Panyu 30 Tourist, 75, 86, 145, 146 and 186, city 129, 302, 303, 303A, 310 and 987, and Night 88 and Night 103.
- Exits E1 and E2 reach the Jinxiu Xiangjiang Stop (westbound), used by the Bus-Metro Feeder Line 9 and Panyu routes 30 Tourist Special, 52, 58, 75, 75B and 86.
- Exit E2 also serves the Nancun Wanbo Station stop on Panyu Avenue (southbound), for Panyu 88, 163A and 163B.
The night routes are the useful detail here: if you are out late, the numbered night services still connect the station area, so you are not entirely dependent on taxis after the metro winds down.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Taxis and ride-hailing are the flexible option for short hops, heavy shopping bags, or trips that do not line up neatly with a bus route. The station has multiple exits onto Hanxi Avenue and Panyu Avenue, so agree on a specific exit with your driver rather than a vague station name, and you will avoid circling the block. This is especially handy around the Wanbo Business District, where several large commercial buildings sit close together.
Walking around the area
Nancun Wanbo is a genuinely walkable district once you are above ground. The station's exits open onto a compact commercial zone that includes Wanbo Center, Wanda Plaza, Grandview Wanbo City, Aoyuan International Center and Panyu Teemall, so shopping, dining and errands can be done on foot without returning to the metro. Residential areas such as South China Country Garden and Jinxiu Xiangjiang are also nearby, and Chimelong Tourist Resort sits adjacent to a main road in the vicinity.
The main caution is scale: the station has seven exits spread across two major roads, so note which exit matches your destination before you go up. Exits A, B, C and E1 open onto the Hanxi Avenue side, while D, E2 and G are on the Panyu Avenue side. Getting the right exit first time saves a long walk around the block.
Arriving from the airport
Guangzhou's main airport is connected to the city by metro, and the metro is the most predictable way in. The route into Nancun involves changing lines, so the practical approach is to ride the airport line into the city network and transfer onto Line 7 or Line 18 for the final leg to Nancun Wanbo Station. Because Line 18 also serves Guangzhou East Railway Station, it is a useful line to remember if your journey continues by rail.
If you are arriving with a lot of luggage or late at night, a taxi or ride-hailing car direct from the airport is the simpler alternative, though it costs more. Whichever you choose, aim to reach Nancun Wanbo before the last trains, and remember the five-minute rule for buying tickets before departure.
