Nancun
Getting around
Nancun sits in Panyu District, Guangzhou, and its transport hub is Nancun Wanbo Station, an interchange where two metro lines meet. For getting around, the metro does the heavy lifting for longer journeys, local buses fill in the last stretch, and taxis or ride-hailing cover the gaps when you are carrying bags or travelling late. Nancun Wanbo Station is served by Guangzhou Metro Line 7 and Line 18. Line 18 is a fast, longer-distance line running toward Wanqingsha in one direction and Guangzhou East Railway Station in the other, with Panyu Square and Shaxi as the neighbouring stops; some Line 18 services are express trains, so check the train before boarding if you are counting stops. Line 7 is the local workhorse through the district, connecting toward Meidi Avenue in one direction and Yanshan in the other, with Hanxi Changlong and Yuangang adjacent. The station is large and spread out, with separate underground sections for each line, so allow a little extra time for the walk when changing between them.
Buying a ticket is straightforward: self-service ticket and top-up machines sit near Exit A, and the ticket booths on the Line 7 side have been upgraded to smart customer service centres. If you plan to ride frequently, a stored-value transit card or a top-up on your ticket is the easiest way to avoid queuing each time. Enter the station and buy tickets at least five minutes before the last train, and check the posted times for your direction rather than assuming a single closing time. Toilets are available on both platforms, an accessible elevator links the concourse and platform serving Exits B and G, and a mother-and-baby room is on the Line 18 platform. Buses cluster tightly around the station exits, which makes transfers easy once you know which exit to use: Exit B serves the Nancun Wanbo Station Metro Stop in both directions, Exits C and G put you at the Wanbo Center Stop (westbound), Exit D reaches the Nanda Lukou Stop (northbound), Exit E1 serves the Wanbo Center Stop (northbound), Exits E1 and E2 reach the Jinxiu Xiangjiang Stop (westbound), and Exit E2 also serves the Nancun Wanbo Station stop on Panyu Avenue (southbound). Night routes still connect the station area, so you are not entirely dependent on taxis after the metro winds down. For taxis and ride-hailing, agree on a specific exit with your driver rather than a vague station name. Above ground, Nancun Wanbo is a genuinely walkable district: the exits open onto a compact commercial zone including Wanbo Center, Wanda Plaza, Grandview Wanbo City, Aoyuan International Center and Panyu Teemall. Note which exit matches your destination before you go up — Exits A, B, C and E1 open onto the Hanxi Avenue side, while D, E2 and G are on the Panyu Avenue side. From the airport, ride the airport line into the city network and transfer onto Line 7 or Line 18 for the final leg; with a lot of luggage or a late arrival, a taxi or ride-hailing car direct from the airport is the simpler alternative.
Three days in Nancun
Day one: Start in Nancun itself, the town at the heart of Panyu District, and use Nancun Wanbo Station on Guangzhou Metro Line 7 as your anchor. The station sits close to Wanbo Center, Wanda Plaza, Grandview Wanbo City and Aoyuan International Center, so you can spend your first hours moving between these complexes on foot. Buses serve the area from stops including Wanbo Center Stop, Nanda Lukou Stop and Jinxiu Xiangjiang Stop, and the Nancun Wanbo Station Metro Stop connects the neighbourhood by bus as well. If you arrive by rail, Guangzhou East Railway Station is the main gateway into the city before you continue south to Panyu.
- Base yourself around Nancun Wanbo Station for easy access to the surrounding malls and offices.
- Use the bus stops along Panyu Avenue to link the different parts of the district.
Day two: Head west along the metro to Hanxi Changlong and Yuangang, both on Line 7, and use Hanxi Avenue as your route through this stretch of Panyu District. Panyu Teemall gives you a large indoor stop for shopping and eating, and Panyu Square is another useful point on the line for exploring the district centre. Note the exits at each station before you surface, and use the toilets inside the metro stations rather than relying on facilities elsewhere. From Panyu Square you can pick up buses onward to Shaxi and Meidi Avenue if you want to see more of the residential side of the district.
Day three: Ride Line 7 in the opposite direction toward Wanqingsha to see the southern edge of Panyu District, then return to Nancun for your final evening. Above Nancun Wanbo the upper levels of the Wanbo Center and Wanda Plaza complexes are where the area's night activity concentrates, with Grandview Wanbo City and Aoyuan International Center nearby. Buying snacks and supplies at the malls around the station is straightforward before you leave. If you are heading back to Guangzhou East Railway Station, allow time for the metro connection via Hanxi Changlong and the Line 7 interchange.
