Getting to Shijiazhuang
Travelers arriving in Shijiazhuang from other regions have several options for reaching the city center, including air, rail, and road transport.
By Air
The primary gateway is Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport. The airport features two terminals: Terminal 1 handles international flights, while Terminal 2 handles domestic flights. There are free shuttle buses available to move between these two terminals. To reach the city center from Terminal 2, there are dedicated airport buses with a fare of ¥20 per person. These buses depart based on flight arrival times, ensuring connectivity even for late-night arrivals. Additionally, passengers can take a scheduled shuttle from the airport to a nearby High-Speed Rail (HSR) station, which features a "rail and air terminal" designed for streamlined connections.
By Train
Shijiazhuang serves as a major railway hub with numerous trains arriving throughout the day. The city is served by several stations, including Shijiazhuang Railway Station (which offers express trains from Beijing), Shijiazhuang North Railway Station, and Shijiazhuang East Railway Station. There is also a specific station for Zhengding Airport. For those purchasing tickets at physical ticket offices, a ¥5 surcharge may apply; however, these offices often provide clear pricing on the walls. Dedicated counters for foreign travelers are available at the stations to assist with language barriers.
By Road
The city is accessible by car via an extensive road network. It can be reached from Beijing in approximately three hours, and expressways connect Shijiazhuang to other major destinations such as Taiyuan and Zhengzhou.
Navigating the City
While many tourist attractions are located outside the city limits, there are several convenient ways to move around the urban area.
Public Transit: Subway and Bus
The city features a subway system with three lines currently in service. For local travel, buses are frequent and inexpensive, typically costing ¥1 regardless of distance (though some air-conditioned buses may cost ¥2 during extreme weather). Many bus stations can be reached from the Shijiazhuang Railway Station via other buses, the subway, or taxis.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are plentiful throughout the city. Pricing varies by vehicle type: gasoline taxis have a flag-drop of ¥8.50, while electric vehicle (EV) taxis have a lower flag-drop of ¥8.00. A delay rate of ¥1.60 applies every five minutes. Note that it can be difficult to hail a taxi during the peak period around 18:00. For those preferring ride-hailing services, the Didi app is available for use.
Bicycle Sharing
For shorter trips or local exploration, bike-sharing is widely available throughout the city. Both bicycles and electric scooters are common; these can be accessed by scanning QR codes provided by major service providers like Didi and Meituan.
Traffic and Walkability
While the city's road network is well-developed, traffic can become heavy during rush hours. During these times, navigating major roads such as Ping'An Da Jie, Zhongshan Lu, Yuhua Lu, Jianshe Da Jie, and Zhonghua Lu may take up to 20 minutes at certain intersections.
