Stand on the square at 102 Xinhua East Road and the relief carvings on the central monument show crowds, rescue teams and rubble. Tangshan was rebuilt after the 1976 earthquake, and its museums, parks and cultural districts are how the city tells that story alongside its industrial past.
Tangshan suits travellers interested in industrial heritage, folk performance and modern Chinese city life, and it works well as a stop between Beijing and the northeast. This guide covers the sights in central Tangshan and the surrounding area, with practical notes on when to go and what to combine.
Top things to do in Tangshan
