Step onto Xidajie (西大街) around midnight and you'll find the street at its peak—a river of young people moving between food carts, steam rising from woks, vendors calling out specialties. This is Xinxiang's famous snack night stall street, where the real evening rhythm unfolds. The variety is deliberate: different vendors means low repetition, so you'll find Xinxiang specialties alongside Southeast Asian food, and places selling alcohol mixed throughout. Come hungry and ready to graze; the atmosphere here is built on motion and discovery, not sitting still.
Coffee Afternoons in Yiyuan
Yiyuan (怡园) isn't a single building but an area—a collection of coffee shops with distinct personalities and old bookstores where the design aesthetic pulls you back to the 1980s. The pace here is intentionally slower. Sit with coffee at one of the specialty shops, which each have their own character and unique brews, and let the retro style create a sense of time slowing down. For something different, Qian Bai Bei (千百杯)—a new Chinese style tavern in Hongqi District where Youyi Road meets New Second Street—serves cocktails and beer alongside Chongqing cuisine as a specialty. Several cafés also serve as evening gathering spots. Qing Tianjian (晴天见奶盖茶), a local milk tea brand known for cheese milk cover tea, operates from Baolong Huanhu Commercial Street in Hongqi District. Sun Mao (榫卯), a new Chinese style coffee shop in Hongqi District's Yitong One World, pairs coffee with interior design rooted in Chinese elements. Tree A Third (树一分之一) on Qu East Yinhuang East Road in Hongqi District offers Japanese-style bread café atmosphere. Coffee Art College (咖啡美院), run by art students about 200 meters south of Huilong Sunshine Community on Renmin Road, features uniquely designed graffiti paper cups alongside coffee; Red Coffee (红咖啡) sits nearby at the same location.
DL and Street Shopping
DL (胖东来) is a landmark building where locals meet to eat and gather. The space houses many Xinxiang special snacks and draws people for its humanized service facilities. Inside, you'll find a claw machine that locals note is easy to operate and generous with prizes. For clothing and crafts, Oriental Walking Street (东方步行街) concentrates antique clothing stores showcasing Gothic, rock, American retro, and new Chinese styles. Handmade shops here let you make custom phone cases and wallets.
Festivals Worth Timing Your Visit Around
The Xinxiang Fengqiu pomegranate Festival runs September 28–30 each year (next in 2026 starting September 1st), held in Chenqiao Town. Chenqiao pomegranates come in more than 30 varieties—red, white stone, green bark, copper bark—and you can taste the different flavors. Earlier in the year, the Xinxiang Fengqiu honeysuckle Festival takes place May 10 annually in Sizhuang Township. Fengqiu's honeysuckle cultivation stretches back more than one hundred years, prized for its large flowers, fresh green color, and medicinal value; the festival lets you learn about honeysickle culture and see high-quality samples. If you're a coffee lover, the Xinxiang Coffee Market happens May 1st (held three times as of 2023).
