Kyimyindine
Introduction
Kyimyindaing is a township in the western part of Yangon, bordered by Kamayut to the north, Sanchaung to the east and Ahlon to the south, with the Yangon River and Twante Township forming its western edge. The township is made up of 21 wards.
Getting around
Kyimyindine is a western Yangon township rather than a standalone destination, so getting around means plugging into the wider city network of buses, the circular rail service, taxis and ride-hailing. There is no metro or tram in Yangon, so rail travel for a visitor effectively means the circular train, a slow but characterful loop that connects outlying areas with the centre; buy a ticket at the station before boarding and keep it for inspection. Buses are the backbone of public transport, and Kyimyindine sits on a circular route run with Scania buses from Aungmingala Highway Bus Terminal through Thanthumar and Botahtaung and back to the terminal — useful if your onward travel is by highway coach. Fares are collected on board, so keep small change handy, and don't assume every bus announces stops: ask the conductor or a fellow passenger to signal yours. The newer Scania buses on the circular route are wheelchair accessible, though this isn't guaranteed across the whole fleet.
- Taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most practical choice for door-to-door trips, especially with luggage, late at night, or when connecting to the airport or highway bus terminal — agree the fare or confirm the app price before setting off.
- From the airport, the YBS Airport Shuttle is the budget option if you can manage your own luggage; a taxi or ride-hailing car gets you directly to a western township like Kyimyindine without changing buses.
- Walking works at neighbourhood scale — the wards are densely packed, so short walks between a stop and your destination are realistic — but treat it as a local option only, since heat and traffic make long cross-city walks impractical.
Three days in Kyimyindine
Day one: Start in Kyimyindine and get your bearings on foot, wandering the streets of this Yangon township beside the Yangon River. Walking is the easiest way to settle into the pace of the neighbourhood, and you can look out over the water before heading onward. In the evening, cross into Sanchaung or Kamayut for a change of scene, both close at hand.

Day two: Use the township as your base for a wider look at the city. Buses and taxis connect Kyimyindine with the rest of Yangon, so you can reach Ahlon and Botahtaung without difficulty. If you are arriving from the airport, the YBS Airport Shuttle is one option, and the Aungmingala Highway Bus Terminal serves longer-distance departures.
