Beibei

Introduction

Beibei is a district of the Chongqing municipality, sitting as a satellite town in the north of central Chongqing. Its name comes from the huge rock that reaches out into the middle of the Jialing River.

The district is known for its historical culture from the period of the Republic of China, which gives it a distinct character within the wider Chongqing area.

Three days in Beibei

Day one: Start in Beibei, a district of Chongqing, and get your bearings along the Jialing River. The river shapes the town's layout and mood, so a walk beside it is the natural first move. As you go, keep in mind that this area was part of the Republic of China period, which gives the streets and older quarters a layered feel worth noticing.

Day two: Go deeper into Beibei itself. Its character comes from the combination of river, hills and the traces of the Republic era, so spend the day moving between the waterfront and the older parts of town rather than rushing through. Let the pace stay slow; the point is to see how the district of Chongqing lives day to day.

Day three: Use your last day to connect what you have seen. Follow the Jialing River again, this time paying attention to how Beibei sits within Chongqing as a whole. If you have time, revisit the part of town that interested you most, and close the trip with a quiet stretch by the water before you leave.
