Sousse is a city in central-eastern Tunisia and the capital of the Sousse Governorate. Located 140 kilometers south of Tunis on the Gulf of Hammamet, a part of the Mediterranean Sea, it had a population of 271,428 as of 2014.
The city's economy is primarily based on transport equipment manufacturing, processed food production, olive oil refining, textiles, and tourism. Sousse is also home to the Université de Sousse, a major educational institution in the region.
