Benin City is the capital and largest city of Edo State in southern Nigeria. According to the 2006 census, it ranks as the fourth-largest city in Nigeria, following Lagos, Kano, and Ibadan. The city is administratively composed of three local government areas—Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, and Oredo—with portions also extending into the Ovia North-East and Uhunmwonde local government areas.
