Poti is a port city located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of western Georgia. The city was established near the site of the ancient Greek colony of Phasis, from which it derives its name.
Since the early 20th century, Poti has developed into a significant industrial center and major port. It also serves as a strategic maritime location, housing a main naval base and the headquarters of the Georgian Navy.
