Bindura is a city located in the Mashonaland Central province of Zimbabwe. It is situated in the Mazowe Valley, approximately 88 km north-east of the capital city, Harare. The town serves as the administrative capital of its province.
The region is characterized by significant mining and agricultural activity. Bindura Nickel, currently known as Trojan Nickel Mine and a subsidiary of Mwana Africa plc, operates in the area to mine nickel, copper, and cobalt, including a smelter refinery located just south of the town. Additionally, cotton and maize are grown extensively throughout the surrounding region.
Demographic data shows steady growth for the city over several decades. According to census records, the population was 18,243 in 1982, increasing to 21,167 by 1992, and reaching 46,275 by the 2012 census. The first basic school in Bindura was established in 1912.
