Tchin Tabaraden

Niger

Tchintabaraden is a town and commune situated in the Azawagh area of northern Niger. It serves as the capital of the Tchintabaraden Department within the Tahoua Region.

The town functions as a primary market center for the Iwellemmedan Tuareg people. Historically, it was a significant site for political activity; in 1985, the first insurrectionist movement seeking autonomy for Tenere—the Tuareg region spanning central-north and western Niger—originated in Tchintabaraden and nearby Abalagh.
