Chalchihuites is a municipality located in the northwestern corner of the Mexican state of Zacatecas. It is situated approximately 137 miles (220 km) northwest of the city of Zacatecas and 102 miles (164 km) southeast of the city of Durango, positioned to the west of Sombrerete.
The area is notable for the archaeological site of Altavista. This site is believed to have served as a cultural oasis that was occupied more or less continuously from AD 100 to AD 1400.
