Totutla is a municipality situated in the southern zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located approximately 40 kilometers from Xalapa, which serves as the state capital. The municipality covers a total area of 80.61 km² and is positioned at the geographic coordinates 19°13′N 96°58′W.
The name Totutla originates from the Náhuatl language, derived from the word Toto-tlan. This etymology translates to "Among the birds," reflecting the linguistic heritage of the region.
