Tonayán is a municipality situated in the southern zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is positioned approximately 20 kilometers from Xalapa, which serves as the state capital.
The municipality covers a total surface area of 74.03 km² and is located at the geographic coordinates 19°43′12″N 96°54′36″W.
