Texistepec is a municipality located in the south-east zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is situated approximately 285 km from the state capital, Xalapa, and covers a total surface area of 615.26 km2 at the coordinates 17°54′N 94°49′W.
Historical records indicate that in 1580, Texistepec was concerned to the province of Coatzacoalcos. In 1831, San Miguel Texistepec was formed as a municipality possessing two square leagues of land with legal titles. The area is noted for its southern population and its historical context within the Mexican Republic.
