Tenampa is a municipality situated in the montane central zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located approximately 30 kilometers from Xalapa, the state capital, and covers a total surface area of 69.92 km2 at the coordinates 19°15′N 96°53′W.
The region has a history involving significant military conflicts and colonial renaming. It was reportedly reached by Emperor Moctezuma in 1455, and following the Spanish conquest in 1514, the area was renamed Xampala-Tenampa. Additionally, the municipality served as a site for the Battle of Cotlamanes's Hill in 1912, where General Jiménez fought against the government of Victoriano Huerta.
