Soteapan is a city and municipality situated in the south-central zone of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located approximately 260 kilometers from Xalapa, which serves as the state capital.
As of the year 2000, the municipality encompassed an area of 528.07 square kilometers and had a total population of 27,487 inhabitants. Of this population, approximately 10,000 residents live within the main city area of Soteapan.
