Las Choapas is a city and municipality located in the southeastern extreme of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It serves as one of the largest municipalities in the state, covering a total area of 2,851.2 square kilometers. The region is bordered by several municipalities across four states: Uxpanapa, Minatitlán, Moloacán, and Agua Dulce in Veracruz; Huimanguillo in Tabasco; Cintalapa and Tecpatán in Chiapas; and Santa María Chimalapa in Oaxaca.
The local economy is based on the production of cattle breeding, corn, oil, fruit, sugar, and rubber. Historically, the area also featured a rice miller. The climate in Las Choapas is characterized by high temperatures that can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, and the region has experienced tornadoes in the past. Infrastructure connections include the Chiapas bridge, which links the municipality to the communities of Raudales-Ocozocoautla in Chiapas.
According to the 2005 census, the city of Las Choapas had a population of 40,773 inhabitants, while the broader municipality recorded a population of 70,092 residents.
