Citlaltépetl, commonly known as Pico de Orizaba, is an active volcano located in eastern Mexico. It sits on the border between the states of Veracruz and Puebla within the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. The mountain reaches an elevation of 5,636 metres (18,491 ft) above sea level.
The peak is recognized as the highest volcano in North America and the highest mountain in Mexico. It ranks as the third highest peak in North America, following Denali in the United States and Mount Logan in Canada. While currently dormant, it is not extinct; its last recorded eruption occurred during the 19th century.
Citlaltépetl is noted for being the second most prominent volcanic peak in the world after Mount Kilimanjaro. Additionally, the mountain holds a rank of 16th by topographic isolation.
