Apazapan is a municipality located in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It covers a surface area of 65.80 km2 and is situated approximately 65 km from the state capital, Xalapa. The geographical coordinates for the municipality are 19°19′N 96°43′W.
Historically, Apazapan was a Totonac population during the era of the Spanish conquest that maintained its indigenous language until the 19th century. It is noted as one of the points marked in the Codex Dehesa, documenting the route of the Nonoalcos de Zongolíca as they crossed several locations before returning to Zongolíca from Apazapan. During the 16th century, the area belonged to the marquisate of Paxaca's Valley, which was established by Hernán Cortés.
