Tzompantepec is a town and surrounding municipality situated in the eastern region of the Mexican state of Tlaxcala. It is located within the Central Mexican Plateau, positioned almost entirely on the slopes of the La Malinche Volcano.
The area holds historical significance as the earliest inhabited site in Tlaxcala and served as the location where the Tlaxcallans were defeated during the early stages of the Spanish Conquest. While the municipality consists primarily of farmland, urban sprawl has reduced the local natural vegetation and wildlife.
