Jalpa de Méndez is a city located in the Jalpa de Méndez Municipality in the northern region of the Mexican state of Tabasco. It is situated within the Chontal Maya region of the state.
The local economy is primarily driven by agriculture, with significant production of cacao, coconut, and livestock. The area is also recognized for its production of decorated dried gourds, which are traditionally used to serve cured meats and drinking chocolate. While the city engages in tourism and oil production, these remain secondary to its agricultural foundations.
