Hermosillo, formerly known as Pitic, is the capital and largest city of the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. It serves as the municipal seat of the Hermosillo municipality and functions as the primary economic center for both the state and the surrounding region.

As of 2020, the city has a population of 936,263, making it the 18th largest city in Mexico. This recent population growth is attributed to expanded industrialization, with a particular focus on the development of the automotive industry.
