Agua Prieta is a city located in the northeastern corner of the Mexican state of Sonora. It is situated directly on the Mexico–U.S. border, adjacent to the town of Douglas, Arizona.
The city serves as the municipal seat for the municipality of Agua Prieta, which encompasses an area of 3,631.65 km2. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 79,138 people and a literacy rate of 96.3%, ranking it as the seventh-largest community in the state.
