Matehuala is a city located in the northern part of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí. It sits at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters and serves as the municipal seat for the municipality of Matehuala.
The municipality is situated on the border with the southwestern corner of Nuevo León. It covers a total area of 1,302 square kilometers (503 square miles) and has a population of 102,199 residents.
