Jalpan de Serra is a city located in the Jalpan de Serra Municipality in the northern region of the Mexican state of Querétaro. It is situated within the Sierra Gorda, an area recognized as an important ecological zone.
The municipality is notable for hosting two of the five Franciscan missions constructed during the mid-18th century. These structures were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Additionally, the region is home to the Pame, a small but significant indigenous group.
While the municipality has experienced a population decline since the mid-20th century, it has recently sought to develop a tourism industry following its designation as a Pueblo Mágico.
