Amealco de Bonfil is a town located in the Mexican state of Querétaro. It serves as the seat of the Amealco de Bonfil Municipality and is situated approximately 63 kilometres (39 mi) southeast of the state capital, Santiago de Querétaro. The town sits at an elevation of 2,605 metres (8,547 ft) above sea level, with annual temperatures typically ranging between 15 and 20 °C.
The name Amealco is believed to originate from the Nahuatl language, meaning "place of springs." It is recognized as one of the oldest settlements in Querétaro, having been founded in 1538 by Fernando de Tapia and Nicolás de San Luis Montañez. Notably, these same individuals were also responsible for founding the state's capital city.
