Tepeaca is a municipality located in the Mexican state of Puebla. It serves as the municipal seat for the municipality of the same name and is situated approximately 35 km (21.75 mi) from the city of Puebla.
The town's name is derived from a Spanish variant of "Tepeyacac," which originates from the Nahuatl words tepetl, meaning "hill," and yacatl. Historically, the settlement was originally founded by Hernán Cortés under the name Segura de la Frontera.
Tepeaca has also been referred to as Tepeaca de Negrete, honoring General Miguel Negrete Novoa, who was born in the town. Along with Tecali Herrera, Negrete Novoa was involved in the extraction of onyx and marble within the region.
