Huejotzingo is a municipality and small city located just northwest of Puebla in central Mexico. In 2023, the Mexican government designated it as a Pueblo Mágico, a status recognizing its significant cultural and historical importance.
The area's history dates back to the pre-Hispanic period when it served as a dominion with a capital located near the modern settlement. The current town was established in 1525 with the founding of a Franciscan monastery; by 1529, monks had relocated the indigenous population to live around this site.
Today, Huejotzingo is recognized for its production of fruit preserves and alcoholic apple cider. It is also known for an annual carnival featuring re-enactments of local historical and legendary events. The most prominent of these is a four-day mock battle involving approximately 2,000 residents who represent Mexican and French forces during the Battle of Puebla.
