Atlixco

Mexico

Atlixco is a city located in the Mexican state of Puebla. Founded during the early colonial period, it originally fell under the jurisdiction of Huejotzingo before eventually establishing itself as an independent municipality.

While the city serves as a regional industrial and commercial center, its economy is primarily recognized for the production of cut flowers and ornamental plants. In 2018, Atlixco joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

The municipality hosts several notable cultural events, most significantly El Huey Atlixcayotl. This modern adaptation of an ancient indigenous celebration features between 800 and 1,500 participants from across the state of Puebla who gather to perform music, dance, and various artistic displays.
