San Pedro Pochutla is a city and municipality situated in the southern region of Oaxaca state in southeastern Mexico. Located along the Pacific Ocean, it serves as the southernmost municipality within the state of Oaxaca. The name San Pedro Pochutla translates to "place of kapok trees."
The city functions as a primary commercial, transportation, and administrative hub for the Pochutla District in the eastern Costa Region. It is positioned at the intersection of coastal Highway 200 and Highway 175, with the latter serving as the town's main thoroughfare. Much of the city was constructed on a lakebed that was drained during the colonial period.
The municipality is notably recognized for hosting several oceanside communities, most significantly Puerto Ángel and Zipolite.
