San Pablo Villa de Mitla is a town and municipality located in the Tlacolula District within the Valles Centrales Region of Oaxaca, Mexico. It is situated approximately 46 km from the city of Oaxaca. The name "San Pablo" honors Saint Paul, while "Mitla" is a Hispanization of the Nahuatl name "Mictlán," which translates to "land of the dead."
The town is most renowned as the site of the Mitla archaeological ruins. It is also recognized for its production of mezcal and handcrafted textiles, particularly embroidered pieces. Additionally, the municipality houses a museum that contains a collection of cultural items from the Zapotec and Mixtec civilizations.
