Ayoquezco de Aldama is a town and municipality located in the state of Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico. It is situated within the Zimatlán District, which lies in the western portion of the Valles Centrales Region. The municipality covers a total area of 58.69 km2.
The name Ayoquezco de Aldama has multiple etymological origins based on different indigenous languages. In Náhuatl, it is derived from "Ayotl" (turtle), "quiza" (come out), and "co," translating to "where the turtles come out." Alternatively, it may originate from the Zapotec word "Gɨdxón," which means "swampy place."
