Asunción Nochixtlán is a town and municipality located in the state of Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. It covers an area of 820.35 km² and is situated within the Nochixtlán District in the southeast portion of the Mixteca Region. The municipality is bordered by the villages of San Andrés Nuxiño, San Andrés Sinaxtla, and San Juan Sayultepec.
The settlement's history dates back to 909, when it was founded as a Mixtec military zone named Neochixtlán by a ruler known as Ndazahuidandaa. Following the abandonment of the area due to epidemics between 1521 and 1522, Francisco Orozco founded the new Nochixtlán in 1527. Today, the local economy is primarily based on agriculture, ranching, and commerce.
A notable cultural landmark in the municipality is the 16th-century church of Santa María de la Asunción. This structure is recognized for housing a collection of fine colonial-era santos. As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 14,676 residents.
