Acaponeta is a municipality and town situated in the northern region of the Mexican state of Nayarit. Geographically, it is located at the coordinates 22°29′47″N 105°21′34″W. The Acaponeta River flows through the town.
As of the 2005 census, the municipality covered a total area of 1,667.7 km² with a population of 34,665 residents. The municipal seat serves as one of the state's primary communities, ranking as the fifth-largest in Nayarit with a population of 18,066.
