Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro is a small village located in the Mexican state of Michoacán. It serves as the municipal seat for the municipality of Nuevo Parangaricutiro and is situated near the Parícutin volcano.
The settlement was established as a result of the 1943 eruption of the Parícutin volcano, which destroyed the original town of San Juan Parangaricutiro. The original village, along with the nearby village of Parícutin, was buried under significant deposits of ash and lava. Today, the top of the church from the original San Juan Parangaricutiro still protrudes from the volcanic material.
