Jacona de Plancarte, commonly known as Jacona, is a city and the municipal seat of the Municipality of Jacona in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. It is situated in the northwestern region of the state on the northern slope of the Sierra de Patamban, which is part of the Volcanic Belt. The city sits at an altitude of 1,600 meters.
The settlement was founded by Fray Sebastián de Trasierra in 1555. However, the area contains buildings and paintings dating back more than 3,000 years. Historically, Jacona served as a symbol of life and death as well as humanity, and it was among the first pre-Hispanic peoples to be entrusted to the Spanish.
