Huetamo is a municipality located in the southeastern corner of the Mexican state of Michoacán. It is situated within a region commonly referred to as "Tierra Caliente." The municipal seat of this area is the city of San Juan Huetamo de Núñez.
The name Huetamo is of indigenous Purepecha Indian origin and translates to "four chiefs" or "four came." As of 2015, the municipality had a recorded population of 41,973 residents.
