Cuitzeo del Porvenir is a town and the municipal seat of Cuitzeo, located in the northern region of the Mexican state of Michoacán. The settlement is situated within a relatively flat depression surrounding Lake Cuitzeo, which is characterized as a large, very shallow body of water currently facing the risk of disappearing.
The town was officially founded in 1550, coinciding with the establishment of a large Augustinian monastery that remains standing today. Currently, Cuitzeo del Porvenir serves as the administrative center for a rural municipality, providing local government services to the surrounding communities.
