Cotija de la Paz is the municipal seat and primary city of the municipality of Cotija, located in the Mexican state of Michoacán. The municipality covers a total area of 504.05 km2.
The region is bordered by the municipalities of Jiquilpan and Villamar to the north, Tocumbo to the east, and the state of Jalisco to the south. According to the 2005 census, the municipality had a population of 18,207 inhabitants.
