Toluca, officially known as Toluca de Lerdo, is the state capital of the State of Mexico and serves as the seat of the Municipality of Toluca. Located approximately 63 kilometres (39 mi) southwest of Mexico City, the city has experienced rapid growth primarily due to its proximity to the national capital.
As of the 2020 census, the city has a population of 223,876. It forms the core of the Greater Toluca metropolitan area, which has a combined population of 2,347,692, making it the fifth most populous metropolitan area in Mexico.
