Teotihuacán de Arista is the municipal seat of Teotihuacan, a municipality located in the State of Mexico. It is situated in the northeast of the Valley of Mexico, approximately 45 km northeast of Mexico City and 119 km from the state capital of Toluca.
The municipality takes its name from the nearby ancient city and World Heritage Site of Teotihuacan, which translates to "place of the gods" in Nahuatl. In Nahua mythology, this location is where the Sun and the Moon were created. The municipal seal features the Pyramid of the Sun from the archaeological site, a structure representing the four cardinal directions and associated with imagery involving water and a deity.
