Tenango de Arista is a city located in Mexico State within the southern portion of the Valley of Toluca. It serves as the municipal seat for Tenango del Valle, situated approximately 72 km southwest of Mexico City and 25 km south of Toluca.
Although it is officially named Tenango de Arista, the city is more commonly referred to by its original name, Tenango del Valle. The area is notable for housing the Teotenango archeological site, which was a walled city inhabited between approximately 900 C.E. and 1550 C.E.
