Temascaltepec de González is a city and the seat of the municipality of Temascaltepec. It is located in the southern region of the State of Mexico, situated approximately 66 km (41 mi) southeast of Toluca and 140 km (87 mi) from Mexico City.
The name Temascaltepec is derived from the Náhuatl words "temazcalli," meaning "steam bath," and "tepetl," which means "hill." Historically, the area was known as "Cocalostoc" by the Matlatzincas people, a name that translates to "cave of crows."
